Hello and welcome to Rin Career Ready Academy. Now the world will see you shine! This course is brought to you by Rin and Let’s Talk Academy. I’m Rima and I’m your trainer for this course. In this course, there are 20 units. In each unit, there are five different lesson types where you can practise different skills and

test your learning. Each Unit will take approximately 10 mins to finish. Please ensure you are in a quiet place when you are going through this unit.

Let’s start with the first unit, The “Interview skills” module. This unit will teach you how to give a good interview confidently.  In Lesson 1, you are going to learn how to answer the basic question ‘tell me something about yourself’ at an interview.

Neha has an interview tomorrow and is nervous. Her friend Namrata, teaches her how to answer the interview question ‘tell me something about yourself’.

Listen to the dialogue between Neha and Namrata.

Neha:  

Namrata, I have an interview tomorrow and I am very scared. I do not know how to answer interview questions correctly.

Namrataa:

Do not worry, I will help you. The first question  you would come across in a job interview is ‘Tell me something about yourself’ It’s the first basic question asked at an interview.

You need to mention your full name, where you live and speak about your educational qualification.

So let’s hear you practice your answer, Neha.

Mention your full name. My name is Neha Shah.

Now practice the phrase by repeating aloud.

  • My name is Neha Shah. ( Pause)
  • My name is Neha Shah. (Pause)

Talk about where you live. Neha says, “I live at Dadar in Mumbai.

Now practice this phrase by repeating aloud.

  • I live in Mumbai at Dadar  ( Pause)
  • I live in Mumbai at Dadar    ( Pause)

Talk about your educational qualifications as it is very important.

Neha has completed her graduation. So she says, “I have completed my graduation in commerce”

Practice by repeating this phrase.

  • I have complete my graduation in Commerce  (Pause)
  •   I have completed my graduation in commerce     (Pause)
  •   I have complete my graduation in commerce (Pause)

I hope you feel more confident after practicing these phrases.

Now let’s look at different ways of answering  by rephrasing the sentences you just practiced.

Instead of ‘My name is Neha Shah, you could also say, “I am Neha Shah.”

Let’s practice by repeating aloud.

  • I am Neha Shah   (Pause)

  •   I am Neha Shah (Pause)

I live at Dadar in Mumbai, could be rephrased as I am based in Mumbai.

Let’s repeat this.

Another way of saying, “I have completed my graduation in Commerce” is, I am a Commerce graduate.

Let’s practice by repeating this alternative phrase.

Now that you have learned the different phrases for speaking about yourself in an interview, let’s remember a few key points while practicing the answer to this question.

  • Always smile while speaking about yourself to the interviewer. This shows you are calm, confident and very pleasing.
  • Do not disclose too much personal information about yourself as it is not necessary or relevant.
  • Do not speak lies about your educational qualification.
  • Make eye contact with the interviewer while answering him

What is the first statement when you start speaking something about yourself at an interview? Your full name, that means your first and last name

Question four:

It is important to make eye contact with the interviewer while speaking
